Shopify Order Status Page: What It Shows, How to Customize

The Shopify order status page is where a customer follows an order after buying: its status from Confirmed to Delivered, a map with live updates when the carrier is supported, and a section for each shipment. Customers reach it from the link in their order confirmation or by signing in to their account. You add content to it, and to the thank you page, with app blocks in the checkout and accounts editor; apps built for these pages work on the Basic plan and up.
How the page works comes from Shopify’s Help Center page on order status pages, and the app options from checkout apps, both read on October 23, 2026.
What the page shows
With a supported carrier, the status updates in real time and the shipment’s location appears on a map. The statuses are:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Confirmed | The order exists, but the shipment isn’t in transit yet |
| On its way | You fulfilled the order (fully or partly) and the carrier reports it in transit |
| Out for delivery | The parcel is in the customer’s area, on its way to the door |
| Delivered | The customer received it |
| Attempted delivery | The carrier tried and couldn’t deliver |
Two cases keep an order stuck at Confirmed. A fulfilled order stays there until the carrier reports it in transit, and an order fulfilled without a tracking number receives no updates at all; mark it as delivered yourself when you know it arrived. With an unsupported carrier, the page shows the tracking number as a link to the carrier’s site, without the status or a live map.
Orders shipped in parts, even with different carriers, get a section per shipment. Add tracking numbers to every fulfillment so each section can update; Shopify order tracking covers carriers and tracking in detail.
How customers reach it
The link sits in the order confirmation, which goes by email, SMS or the Shop app depending on the contact details the customer gave at checkout. A customer who gave an email gets the confirmation by email and later order and shipping updates; one who gave only a phone number gets the confirmation by SMS, and order and shipping updates aren’t sent by SMS. You can let those customers opt in to email updates. Make sure your email templates include the link to the order status page.
Customers with an account can sign in and open the order from there. You can see a customer’s page too: open the order and click More actions > View order status page, though you’ll see only limited details because of the login requirement.
Privacy on the page
Shopify protects the details behind the link:
- From the confirmation email, the page opens without logging in for 3 weeks in the same browser, and for 2 weeks across up to 5 different browsers.
- After that, a Log in to view all order details prompt asks the customer to sign in, or to enter the order number together with the email or phone number used at checkout.
- Without that, only limited details show: the items, the total, discounts and the status. Name, addresses, payment method, shipping method and tracking number stay hidden.
A shared link shows the limited view only. Login links on the page need the new customer accounts with Show login links turned on; they don’t appear with legacy customer accounts.
Customize it
The order status and thank you pages are customized with blocks in the checkout and accounts editor, the same editor used for checkout and customer account pages. Apps built with UI extensions for these two pages work on the Basic plan and higher; apps for the information, shipping and payment steps of checkout are Plus-only. Install an app from the App Store (the Refine > Customizes checkout filter lists compatible ones), then open the editor and add its block from the Apps sidebar. Some blocks can only go in specific areas of the page.
The old way, code pasted into the Additional scripts box in the settings and script tags added by apps, is gone. Shopify set August 26, 2026, as the deadline to upgrade the thank you and order status pages; stores that hadn’t upgraded by then were upgraded automatically, and customizations made with incompatible apps, scripts or pixels have to be replaced (upgrade guide, read October 31, 2026). Shopify’s developer documentation on order status script tags gives the same date for non-Plus stores (August 28, 2025, for Plus) and names the replacements: UI extensions for anything shown on the page, web pixels for tracking and conversions. If a conversion tag or a survey stopped reporting in late August, check whether it now runs as a pixel in Shopify’s pixels manager (Customer events), or whether its app offers a block for these pages.
Content we’d consider adding, in our view the most useful for customers waiting for a parcel:
- Expected delivery times and what to do if a parcel is late.
- A link to returns and the returns policy.
- Care or setup instructions for the product, or a short video.
- A survey asking where the customer heard about you, kept to one question.
We’d keep upsells modest here, since the customer has already paid and came to check on an order. Post-purchase offers are covered in Shopify upsells, and delivery itself in our shipping and returns guides.
FAQ
Where do customers find their Shopify order status page? The link is in the order confirmation they receive by email, SMS or the Shop app. Customers with an account can also open the order after signing in.
Why does my order status page still say Confirmed? A fulfilled order shows Confirmed until the carrier reports it in transit. Orders fulfilled without a tracking number get no updates, so mark them as delivered yourself.
Can I customize the Shopify order status page? You can add app blocks to the order status and thank you pages in the checkout and accounts editor. Apps built with UI extensions for these pages work on the Basic plan and higher.
Is the order status page link private? The link opens without login for a limited time; after that, customers sign in or enter their order number with their email or phone. A shared link shows only limited details.
