Getting started

How do I create my first rule?

Open RuleDesk. An empty store shows templates; pick one with Use template, or click Add rule. Set the conditions under When and the actions under Then, and click Save. The rule is in your draft; buyers see nothing yet.

How do I check a rule before buyers see it?

Click Preview. Add products, a customer or company, an address and the payment methods and delivery options your checkout offers. The preview shows what is hidden, renamed or moved, which message stops checkout, which discount applies, and which rule did it.

How do I send rules to checkout?

Click Publish on the rules page, add a note if you like and confirm. Buyers see the change within a minute. Until then the page says “Sending your rules to checkout”.

Where do I find the names of my payment methods?

In Shopify admin, Settings → Payments. Rules match the names there, and case does not matter: “cash” matches “Cash on Delivery (COD)”. Card payments carry the provider’s name, such as “Shopify Payments”, not “Credit card”.

Why don’t I see my checkout block?

Blocks show only after you place the RuleDesk block in the checkout editor: Settings → Checkout → Customize, then add the app block. Blocks on the information, shipping and payment steps need Shopify Plus.

Approvals, versions and schedules

How do approvals work?

In Settings, turn on “A second staff member approves every publish”. Publish becomes Request publish; the version waits in a banner with the list of changes. Another staff member clicks Approve and publish or Reject with a reason. The person who asked can withdraw the request to keep editing. A newer request replaces the one still waiting.

How do I roll back?

Open History, open the version and click Roll back to this version. It is published at once as a new version and your draft returns to those rules. Rollback comes with the Plus plan.

How do schedules work?

Give a rule a start, an end or both, in your store’s time zone. RuleDesk publishes the change at that minute; the rest of your rules stay as they are.

Several stores

How do I share rules across stores?

On Plus Multi-store, open Organization in the main store and create one. Install RuleDesk in each other store, open Organization there and enter the invite code. Rules you add under Organization rules are published to every store. Under Stores → Store values a store can turn a shared rule off or use its own number.

Which plan do the other stores need?

Shared rules count against the plan of the store that owns the organization. Each store pays for its own rules.

Plans and limits

What does each plan include?

Free lets you build and preview rules. Basic ($29 a month) includes 10 active rules and bundles, then $3 for each extra one per billing cycle. Plus ($149) includes 100, then $1.50 each, and adds checkout blocks, approvals, rollback, schedules, B2B company conditions and the audit log. Plus Multi-store ($299) includes 300, then $1 each, and adds an organization of up to 10 stores. Paid plans start with a 14-day free trial and are billed monthly; extra rules stop at the monthly usage limit you set in the app. Charges are made by Shopify. Full comparison on the product page.

What happens when I downgrade?

Everything keeps running for 7 days. A banner shows the date and the rules that will be turned off: rules that use features of a higher plan and the newest rules over your limit. Turn rules off yourself to choose which stay. After 7 days RuleDesk publishes a version without them; it never turns rules off silently.

How big can my rule set be?

Up to 25 conditions per rule. Shopify limits the configuration each checkout function can read; if your rules exceed it, publishing is refused with the names of the rules to shorten.

Messages and troubleshooting

“Some rules didn’t reach checkout”

The page names the rule types and the reason. Fix the cause if one is named and click Retry. Your previous rules stay at checkout until the publish succeeds.

A rule does not apply at checkout

Check that the rule is active and published (the rules page shows “You have unpublished changes” otherwise), that the payment method or delivery option name matches, and run the same cart in Preview to see which condition fails.

What happens when I uninstall?

Shopify removes RuleDesk’s payment and delivery customizations, validation, discount and cart transform, so checkout returns to your store’s defaults. 48 hours later your rules and history are deleted. If you reinstall before that, RuleDesk publishes your rules again.
