AI Apps for Shopify in 2026: Worth Adding to Built-in AI?

The AI apps worth adding to a Shopify store in 2026 are the ones that do a job Shopify’s built-in AI does not: answering customers across channels, searching a large catalog well, or writing email flows from your customer data. Try Sidekick, the Inbox agent and Search & Discovery first, since they come with Shopify and already know your store. Then add one app per gap, check its install screen for what data it reads, and judge it on a number you can measure within a month.
Built-in first
Shopify’s admin already includes Sidekick. Its Help Center page, read on October 23, 2026, says Sidekick can analyze data, manage orders, edit products, and create blog posts, product descriptions and images, and that it learns from past conversations and recent admin activity; the Fall ’26 Edition (October 28, 2026) rebuilt it with memory. Product descriptions can be drafted from the editor’s toolbar, and Shopify warns that you stay responsible for the accuracy of generated text. Shopify Inbox has an opt-in Inbox agent that answers questions about products, shipping, returns and policies from your catalog and storefront content, and the free Search & Discovery app sets up to 10 complementary and 10 related products per product. What each of these does is covered in Shopify’s built-in AI.
AI apps by job
Listing data below was read on October 31, 2026; check the listing before you install, because prices change.
| Job | Try first (built in) | App to compare | What you pay for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Customer support chat | Inbox agent | Tidio: 4.8 from 1,357 reviews; Lyro AI plan $39 a month for 200 AI conversations | AI conversations per month |
| Site search | Shopify search with Search & Discovery synonyms and filters | Searchanise: 4.7 from 1,264 reviews; free under 25 products, paid plans from $19 a month | Plan by store size |
| Email and SMS | Shopify Messaging | Klaviyo: 4.7 from 3,427 reviews; free to 250 active profiles and 500 emails a month, email from $20 a month | Active profiles and SMS credits |
| Product recommendations | Search & Discovery recommendations | An upsell app from the App Store’s upsell category | Varies by app; read the plan table |
| Product copy and images | Sidekick | A copy app only for bulk work across hundreds of products | Varies by app |
| Reports and questions about sales | Sidekick on your store’s data | An analytics app when you need data from ads and other channels too | Varies by app |
Read the pricing unit closely. Tidio’s Lyro plan counts AI conversations, so a busy week can use up the month. Klaviyo charges by active profiles, and one recent review on its listing describes a bill that grew when the counted profiles rose, so check how a vendor counts before your list grows. Check an AI app before you install
We build Shopify apps ourselves, and these are the checks we would run as merchants:
- Read the install screen. Shopify’s Help Center shows the data an app asks for before you install, in two groups: personal data it can view, and store data it can view and edit, with a link to the developer’s privacy policy. An AI support app needs orders and customers; an AI copy app should not need your customers.
- Find what the AI is trained on. The listing or the privacy policy should say whether your store’s data trains the vendor’s models and whether you can opt out.
- Look for the Built for Shopify badge. The App Store has a Built for Shopify filter that shows only certified apps, which Shopify describes as high quality.
- Check what it does without you. A bot that can issue refunds or discounts, or an app that rewrites product pages, should let you review changes first or set limits.
- Pick one number. Tickets answered without staff, search exits, or email revenue per recipient: measure it for a month before the app and a month after, and uninstall the app if the number does not move.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI app for Shopify? For a small store, the first AI app worth paying for usually covers support across email and chat, or search on a catalog of thousands of products. Try Sidekick, the Inbox agent and Search & Discovery first.
Are Shopify AI apps safe for customer data? An app sees only the data you approve on the install screen, which lists the personal and store data it asks for and links to its privacy policy. Read both, and ask the developer whether your data trains its models.
Do I need an AI chatbot app? You need one when chat volume is more than your team can answer quickly and many questions repeat. Start with the Inbox agent in Shopify Inbox; move to an app when you need the bot on email or social channels too, or more control over its answers.
