Smile, Rivo, Joy, BON and LoyaltyLion all have free plans for small stores; the differences show up when you want VIP tiers, Shopify POS support or referrals, which can sit on a plan costing $15, $49, $129 or $199 a month depending on the app. Compare them by the plan that has the features you need, at your order volume.

LoyaltyLion lists VIP tiers and POS locations on its $199 Classic plan. Several of these listings name store credit as a reward type without tying it to a specific plan, so ask the developer before you plan rewards as store credit. Remember Shopify’s own store-credit rules too: credit needs the new customer accounts and is spent in full at checkout.
Pick by stage
- Your first loyalty program, under 200 orders a month: any of the free plans. Smile and BON include referrals for free; check that the free plan’s branding and limits are acceptable.
- A shop as well as an online store: POS support decides. Rivo lists it from $15 and BON from $29; Joy only from $129. Smile’s listing says it works with Shopify POS.
- You want VIP tiers soon: Rivo’s Scale plan at $49 is the lowest-priced plan with VIP tiers in this group; Joy and BON reach them at $129, Smile at $199.
- Several thousand orders a month: compare Joy’s Ultimate, Rivo’s Plus and LoyaltyLion’s higher plans on quotes, including how overage per 100 orders adds up in your busiest month.
Switching apps later
Points balances are your customers’ money in their eyes. If you move from one app to another, export members and balances from the old app, check the new one can import them, and announce the switch with the balance carried over. Plan the move outside your peak season, and keep the old app installed until the import is checked, so nobody loses points.

Write down your earn rate, redeem value, minimum, expiry and exclusions before you open any app; otherwise its defaults become your program.
