Live Shopping for Shopify Stores: YouTube and TikTok Live

Updated , first published · 4 min read

Live shopping from a Shopify store runs on two native routes: YouTube Shopping, which shows your products during live streams on your YouTube channel, and TikTok Shop LIVE, where viewers buy from your stream inside TikTok. Both connect through a free Shopify sales channel (Google & YouTube, or TikTok), both send orders back to your Shopify admin, and both have entry rules: YouTube needs a channel with 1,000 subscribers and monetization approval, TikTok Shop needs a store in one of ten countries.

Shopify facts come from the Help Center pages on YouTube Shopping and TikTok, read on October 23, 2026.

Where you can sell live

YouTube Shopping live TikTok Shop LIVE
Shopify channel Google & YouTube TikTok
Where viewers buy In the YouTube app for eligible US merchants; elsewhere, on your online store Inside TikTok, from the stream
Main requirements 1,000+ subscribers, monetization approval, a YouTube Partner Program country, channel email matching a Shopify staff account with full permissions A store in the US, UK, Spain, Ireland, France, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Japan or Brazil; a verifiable address in Locations; a return policy page; a TikTok for Business account
Orders Managed in Shopify, with returns and payments Synced to Shopify with catalog, inventory and fulfillment
Not supported Personalized items, bundles and subscriptions in YouTube’s in-app checkout Products that TikTok Shop’s prohibited products policy for your country excludes

If neither fits, you can still stream on any platform and link to your store, but viewers then have to leave the stream to buy.

Set up products for a live

Do this a week before the first stream:

  1. Connect the channel. For YouTube, connect the store in YouTube Studio (Monetization > Shopping > Connect store) and finish setup in Sales channels > Google & YouTube > YouTube Shopping. For TikTok, add the TikTok channel and connect TikTok Shop. Our guides to YouTube for Shopify stores and TikTok for Shopify stores have the full steps.
  2. Pick 5 to 10 products for the session and check each one syncs: correct price, image and stock in the platform’s product list. For YouTube in-app checkout, check that none is a bundle, a subscription or a personalized item.
  3. Check stock is real. A live sale moves fast, and the channels sell from your Shopify stock. Count the units you can ship before you promise them on camera.
  4. Set up the offer. A discount for the live only, with start and end times in your store’s time zone, or a bundle price. Decide whether the code is shown on screen or applied automatically.
  5. Test a purchase from the platform on a phone, then refund it.

Run the session

A run-of-show we would use for a 30 to 45 minute stream:

Minutes What happens
0 to 3 Say who you are, what you’ll show, and the live-only offer. People join late, so repeat the offer every 10 minutes
3 to 10 The bestseller first: show it in use, answer questions from the chat by name
10 to 30 One product every 4 to 5 minutes. Pin or show each product as you talk about it, so viewers can tap it
30 to 40 Questions from the chat, then a recap of everything shown
Last 2 The offer’s end time, and where to find the products after the stream

Two people make it easier: one presents, one watches the chat, pins products and checks stock in Shopify. Write down the questions people ask; they are next week’s product page FAQ.

After the live

  • Fulfill fast. Orders arrive in your Shopify admin like any other order; ship them in the time the stream promised.
  • Check the numbers. Orders and revenue per product during the stream, compared with the same hours on a normal day.
  • Reuse the recording. Cut the best product demo into short clips for product pages and social posts. Our guide to video marketing for Shopify covers adding video to product pages.
  • End the offer at the time you said, so the next live-only offer is believed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I do live shopping with Shopify? You can, through YouTube Shopping on live streams with the Google & YouTube channel, or TikTok Shop LIVE with the TikTok channel. Orders from both arrive in your Shopify admin.

What do I need for YouTube live shopping? A YouTube channel with at least 1,000 subscribers that is approved for monetization and in a YouTube Partner Program country, connected to your store through the Google & YouTube channel.

Which countries can use TikTok Shop LIVE with Shopify? Shopify lists the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Ireland, France, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Japan and Brazil for TikTok Shop.

How long should a live shopping stream be? For a first stream we would plan 30 to 45 minutes with 5 to 10 products, repeating the offer every 10 minutes for people who join late.

Do I need a separate discount for the live? It helps viewers act during the stream. Set start and end times in your store’s time zone, and end it when you said you would.
