Shopify Facebook Shop: Set Up Facebook and Instagram by Meta

A Shopify Facebook shop is a Shop section on your Facebook Page that shows your Shopify products, kept in sync by Shopify’s free Facebook & Instagram sales channel. To set it up, you need a Facebook Page owned by a Meta business portfolio, a personal Facebook account with full control of both, and a business in a country where Meta supports shops. Then you install the channel, connect your accounts, accept Meta’s terms and turn on the Facebook Shop feature.
What you need before you start
| Requirement | What Shopify says |
|---|---|
| Facebook Page | Your personal Facebook account needs full control of a Facebook Page for the business. Shopify uses your account only to access that Page and the business portfolio |
| Business portfolio | The portfolio you choose must own the Page; a Page owned by another portfolio won’t appear as an option |
| Country | Your business must be in a country Meta supports for Shops on Facebook and Instagram |
| Staff | Each staff member who needs access connects their own Facebook account, with full control of the portfolio and the Page |
| Domain | Your myshopify.com domain can’t already be linked to another business portfolio |
| Ad account | Needed for some features, such as running ads |
| Taxes | Configure Settings > Taxes and Duties before you finish setup |
The tax row changed in 2025: since August 26, 2025, Meta is no longer a marketplace tax facilitator, so you collect and remit sales tax on every Facebook and Instagram order yourself.
If the Page does not appear during setup, check who owns it: an old portfolio, an agency’s portfolio or a former employee’s account. Sort out Page ownership in Meta Business Suite first.
Connect the channel and set up the shop
- In Shopify, go to Settings > Sales channels and click Shopify App Store.
- Search for “Facebook” and click Add channel (or Add app). The channel is free on all Shopify plans, subject to eligibility; Meta’s listing showed a 3.9 rating from 5,780 reviews on October 23, 2026.
- Choose the feature to set up first, Facebook Shop, and click Start set up.
- Click Connect account and sign in to Facebook.
- Connect the assets the feature needs: the business portfolio, the Page, and if asked, the ad account and the catalog.
- Accept the terms and conditions and click Finish setup.
Once Facebook verifies your account, a Shop section appears on your Page with your products. Facebook also adds a Shop Now button to the Page that opens the Shop section; you can change it on Facebook, for example to link straight to your online store.
While you are in the channel, set up the Meta pixel under Settings > Share data settings: turn on data sharing and choose Standard, Enhanced or Maximum. Standard sends customer behavior only; the other two add details such as name, location and email. Our guide to the Meta pixel for Shopify explains the levels.
One catalog for Facebook and Instagram
The channel keeps one product catalog that serves Facebook Shop, Instagram Shopping and Meta’s marketing tools. That has two consequences:
- Edit products in Shopify, not on Facebook. Changes you make in Shopify update in your Facebook Shop. Names, descriptions and prices on Meta come from Shopify; if a price looks wrong on Meta, check the price and compare-at price in Shopify first.
- Choose what you publish. When you add a sales channel, all existing products become available to it. Remove products you do not want on Facebook from the channel’s product availability, for example items Meta’s commerce policies don’t allow or products you cannot ship to Facebook buyers.
Setting up Instagram Shopping uses the same catalog, so it takes a few extra steps once the Facebook side works; see our guide to the Instagram shop on Shopify.
Orders, messages and customer data
Orders. You manage the products, orders and customers from your Shopify admin, like orders from your online store.
Messages. Customers can message your Page through Messenger, and you answer as the business. A Contact Seller button on Facebook sends customer emails to the customer support email set in your Shopify admin, so check that address is one somebody reads.
Customer data. Meta requires you to handle customer information from Facebook Shop according to its Commerce merchant agreement.
Ads. The channel itself is free, subject to eligibility. To bring people to the Shop section, post about your products and run ads, which you create in Meta Ads Manager with the catalog and pixel the channel set up. Our guide to Facebook ads targeting covers the audience side, and the marketing and SEO hub has the rest of our channel guides.
